Liquid hyaluronic acid with a very high molecule weight.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) occurs naturally in high concentrations in the cartilage and synovial fluid in animals and humans where it has a lubricating and shock-absorbing function. Under increased load, such as hard training or in older horses, the amount of HA falls and the synovial fluid becomes more dilute. As the viscosity lessens, the synovial fluid loses its protective and shock-absorbing effect. Viscosity increases again at rest, but if the recovery time is too short, the joints are put under load at the next training session, which can result in damage.
HA is added to restore the viscous, protective consistency in the synovial fluid, thus protecting the joints.
There are specific receptors in the intestines which transport hyaluronic acid to the blood and on to the joints. The size of the hyaluronic acid molecule controls the effect in the joints, the bigger the molecule the better.
The hyaluronic acid molecule in Eclipse Biofarmab’s BioLuron has very high, lasting quality and is 1 300 000Da in size, which is a very large molecule.
A daily addition of hyaluronic acid (with high molecular weight) in the feed of event horses has proved to have a positive effect on maintaining normal joint function.
