Mineral supplement for horses. Pure salt of food grade. Use Biofarmabs salt when you want control over the horses salt intake. Daily supplement, mixed in the feed, in relation to the weather and the horses work.
The horse’s sweat is known as hypertonic, which means that the sweat contains a higher concentration of ions than blood and bodily fluids in general. Ions are important for maintaining which is called “stretch potential” across the cells’ membranes and walls, which is crucial for the body’s ability to transport water between cells.
Hard-working horses can quickly develop an electrolyte imbalance and lack of fluid as a result of sweating. Remember, also, that horses normally lose fluids and electrolytes when breathing, urinating and defecating. The normal daily requirements for a 500-kg horse is estimated at between 20-40 grams of salt. During the winter, when the horse sweats less, they often don’t drink as much, which can lead to dehydration.
The horse’s blood has a higher content of sodium chloride – i.e. salt – than humans. When the horse sweats, it therefore loses relatively large amounts of salt. This salt is mainly taken from the blood. A horse that works hard for an hour can lose up to 130g of salt. Sodium chloride is therefore the most important electrolyte. A lack of sodium can lead to a fall in blood volume. In cases of long-term deficiency, the body’s ability to retain water is affected, causing a loss in body weight. Untreated, dehydration can lead to muscle cramp and poor transport of oxygen, energy and fluids through the body. Kidney problems, inability to sweat and poor recovery after exercise are other problems.
Horses being given electrolytes must have free access to water!
Pure salt of food quality.
